Los Angeles Vintage: Adore Vintage at A Current Affair, Day One

Day 1 of the Vintage Pop-Up Marketplace just ended (literally like an hour ago) and I was so excited about the event that I had to post my photos immediately! Last time I participated in A Current Affair, I really had no idea what I was getting myself into. I brought one rack the first day, my dress form, and a rug. I think my booth has improved since then, no? ;)

It was really cool to meet girls that were already familiar with Adorevintage. A few girls even told me they've been following Adorevintage for a couple of years now (hello there if you're reading this!). I think the best part though is when I get compliments from complete strangers how much they love the vintage clothes I offer and compliment my eye for vintage.

Oh, and finally got to meet Salvage Life and Just Say Native! We didn't get a lot of time to chat since everyone was so busy setting up then people started streaming in, but hopefully we'll get to have a good old fashioned "getting to know you...getting to know all about you..." chats. I did get to chat with Salvage Life's intern, Julia, who is as sweet as sweet could be.

Ahhh...and the highlight of my evening? Meeting French actress Clemence Poesy whom I adore! She is so very sweet and even wrote me a little message in my sketch book! *happy dance* This time meeting one of my style icons was a true pleasure unlike my last experience meeting another one of my style icons, Alexa Chung at the Vintage Fashion Expo.

If you follow Adorevintage on Instagram you will see my photo with Clemence, I am geeky happy and Clemence just looks cool as always. I'll be posting Instagram photos of the event tomorrow on AV Twitter and AV Facebook as well (so yeah, got all social mediums covered).

Until tomorrow! More photos to come!

Behind the Scenes at the Day Job

I cannot even begin to tell you how stressful this week has been. It felt like one of the longest weeks of my life! My day job is great and quite fun like 90% of the time, in fact most of the time I think "I can't believe I get paid for this!" But this week was photoshoot week and normally I am super ecstatic about doing editorials and lookbooks... but when you've got 8 hours to shoot SIX (that's right SIX) editorials in one day...and shoot over 400 samples the next day... topped off with a boss who decides to go ballistic hyper micro managing and screams at you in front of everyone during the shoot that you've screwed up... that equals to MELTDOWN.

behindthescenes
behind the scenes never shows the drama...

Did I totally go to the bathroom and cry? Yes, yes I did. Did I totally get even more pissed off when everyone kept trying to console me therefore making it worse. Yup, you betcha. I eventually had to pull a little bit of a bitch card, "I don't want to talk about it, I have to do my job, so let's just get on with it, ok?"

You know you see those reality tv fashion shows and you see that one person just lose it and you're sitting at home all comfy shaking your head thinking "drama, drama, drama"... that's exactly how this was. I'm the person you're shaking your head at.

Needless to say, it wasn't my shiniest moment.

But thankfully, this week is O-V-E-R! Forwards and on wards little lady! Sometimes when I'm really down I have to remember there are people out there to help pick me up. But I also remember I need to know how to pick myself up and put myself together when shit is going down and I have a job to do.

Los Angeles Vintage | A Current Affair Pop-Up Vintage Market

A Current Affair is coming up soon! (It's this weekend!) Here's my quick and dirty guide to one of my favorite vintage events in Los Angeles, A Current Affair Pop-Up Marketplace in downtown Los Angeles.

A Current Affair happens a few times a year. Spring, Fall, and Holidays. There are usually 20-30 vintage vendors who all know their stuff like for serious. This isn't your average swap meet or flea market ditty. The vendors here are not only very knowledgeable about vintage, they're also all very fashion savvy. The crowd that goes through the event is usually a good mix of wardrobe stylists, designers, costume designers for tv shows and movies, fashion bloggers, celebrities, and vintage aficionados. You'll find a plethora of vintage designer labels and rare antique and vintage finds. It's a really well curated show and a must do if you're in LA during the weekends of the events. If not to mingle with some of the fashionable peeps that come through and get your cocktail hour on...at least come to get inspired! A Current Affair is definitely the place to shop for when you're looking for that special something to add to your wardrobe.

Oh, and also all the vendors are just cool nice people. I should know, I've met them all! ^_^

Ok, let's talk prices. Since that's really what you want to know, right? A Current Affair isn't a flea market. Can you haggle for prices? Sure, as a vendor I'm not going to get offended, just don't ask for a $400 dress to be $60... I'm not sure how other vendors feel about price haggling, but I know when I go to a vintage show I always ask for a lower price if I feel like what the seller is asking is a bit higher. If they say no, I was probably going to pay the asking price anyway. Long story short, it doesn't hurt to ask, just don't be insulting.

SEE YA THERE!

Who hath desired the Sea? -- the sight of salt water unbounded --
The heave and the halt and the hurl and the crash of the comber wind-hounded?
The sleek-barrelled swell before storm, grey, foamless, enormous, and growing --
Stark calm on the lap of the Line or the crazy-eyed hurricane blowing --
His Sea in no showing the same his Sea and the same 'neath each showing:
His Sea as she slackens or thrills?
So and no otherwise -- so and no otherwise -- hillmen desire their Hills!
- Rudyard Kipling

Coming Soon: A Vintage Shop Preview

It feels so nice to get back into the swing of things. I have to be honest, I'm a creature of habit. (Well, aren't most of us?) I like things to be written down, to be scheduled, to be consistent. Although, I am almost always late to things. I blame that on my island upbringing. So, it's nice that I'm getting back into the habit of weekly listings... and speaking of...here they are!

This weekend's vintage shop update features my favorite color scheme... cream, pale peach, pale pink... no grey. But there is a good mix of black and hints of tangerine. I really am enjoying putting together these "curated" mini collections for the weekly shop updates! In other news... the design of the new website is coming along! I finally finished coding the product listing pages and index page. Hopefully will be ready to be launched within 2 weeks!

All these new updates will be up Saturday - Sunday.

Styling | The Late Summer Hours by Ann He

I've realized I never shared these beautiful images from the very talented photographer Ann He who I had the pleasure to work with last Spring. I was astonished to find out how young she was yet incredibly wise beyond her years. I know that sounds cheesy, but for a 16 year old, this gal has miles and miles of potential and talent.

I wanted to keep the wardrobe really simple but still feminine and have an ethereal feel. I know I could have made it even more fantasy, but around this time I wanted to get away from being known as too much of a "costume" stylist and be more recognized for "edited pretty" if that makes sense.

Vintage Atelier | A First Look Inside the Adorevintage Studio

Well, the vintage atelier is finally coming around. You can see some before photos here and some progress photos in this post. And if you follow me on Instragram (adorevintage) or Twitter (adorevintagecom) you've probably seen my mini adventures with moving stuff around and painting this place.

There's still a lot more I need to do. I just bought sheer white curtains, still need to move in my large industrial storage lockers, get another garment rack, and replace all the plastic hangers to wooden ones (I have two boxes of hangers I need to actually use!). Oh, and I have a ton of art I still need to hang up! I'm really happy with how it's coming along, but in about a month it will definitely look a little more put together! But, anyhow, for now, here is my vintage work studio! If you're in LA, I'll be taking appointment only visits on Saturdays!

Here's my building!

The studio is pretty much a square-ish box with big windows along one entire wall.

The start of my studio garden. I want to get a lot more plants in here and I need pots! I'm fortunate enough that my building is a couple blocks from the Flower Market and there are lots of garden shops close by that's pretty cheap.

Yeah, it gets kind of messy in here.
